When you add more Unifi gear then the controller can recognize uplinks between switches and shift the devices to more appropriate ports. I added a switch to a network (up to date on stable firmware) and it is running on a controller (up to date on stable firmware) and while I only have a single device connected to the switch (downstream) it shows the entire network as if it is hanging off of that port, which it's not. When it appears, often the link between the UDMP and the Switch 24 is not shown. This could be why you don't see any clients connected. The flex mini switches and their wired clients and the APs connected to them along with the wireless clients no longer show.
